WordPress knowledge is very in demand since WordPress websites power over 18% of the web today.  On this site, my goal is to specifically help you use WordPress to start or grow your business. However, if you are very new to WordPress, it might be a good idea to get the basics down by taking a WordPress beginner course. There are a number of great courses online that are either free or inexpensive. Many of the WordPress beginner courses listed below also show you how to host your own WordPress site which is highly recommend if you are using WordPress for business or hope to monetize your website.

1.  WordPress Basics: How to Manage Your Website

Udemy’s FREE WordPress beginner course gets very high reviews and offers a well rounded intro to WordPress touching on all the essentials for creating content and touches on the basics of extending WordPress functionality by using plugins.

2. WordPress 101

WP Beginner offers a FREE Wordpress beginner course (once you submit your name and email) with 17 videos that covers the entire WordPress backend dashboard. This course picks up from a pre-installed WordPress site but offers FREE WordPress install services if you choose to host with one of their affiliated hosts.

3. WordPress Essential Training

Lynda.com’s WordPress course is the most extensive out of the group, covering not only content and plugins but also delves into how to use specific plugins (like how to create a contact form). It also gives you tips on getting traffic and touches on website security.  To access this course, you can join Lynda.com as a basic member and pay $25 monthly (cancel at any time). As a member, you will have the opportunity to take other WordPress courses to continue your learning.

4. WordPress Basics: Create a WordPress Website in 15 Minutes.

Skillshare offers a WordPress beginner course for only $25. Their training includes projects that you can submit and get feedback on from the instructor. Sometimes a little homework helps with the learning process 🙂

 5. WordPress Development

Finally, Treehouse offers an entire WordPress Development track to follow. By the end, you should be comfortable with basic WordPress theme development. Treehouse is a membership site and offers a 14 day free trial. You can start off with the first course in their track which touches on the basics like any other WordPress beginner course then, if you decided you want to further your education, you have the option to carry on with other courses and learn how to develop your very own theme!

  1. I have tried all morning to register. I received the link via email. But everytime I try to complete the process, it either tells me the username already exists (but will be available in a few days, which concerns me) or it tells me the name doesn’t exist.
I tried using my school address dkd5102@psu.edu and it tells me there are characters not allowed.

I would love to receive your newsletter, but cannot complete the registration.
    Thanks so much
