5 Interesting Facts About Lupita Nyong'o

Last week, Lupita Nyong’o graced the stage at the Academy Awards to accept her Oscar for best supporting female for 12 years a slave. This was my first introduction to Lupita and, of course now, I see her everywhere.

I’ve liked how friendly and humble she appears in interviews. I’ve also been impressed at how well spoken and meaningful she can be in her  speech about beauty at the Black Women in Hollywood luncheon.

Therefore, for this female friday, I wanted to get to know more about Lupita Nyongo’s as inspiration.

1. Lupita had her first introduction to the film industry working as a production assistant for the The Constant Gardener (filmed in Nairobi and Kenya where she grew up)

2.  Ralph Fiennes who told her to become an actor only if it was something she couldn’t imagine doing without

3. She is fluent in 4 languages: her native Luo language, English, Swahili and Spanish.

4. Lupita has a Masters in Fine Arts from Yale where she was the recipient of the Herschel Williams Prize “awarded to acting students with outstanding ability”
